Bellport Brewery is eventually the result of two families joining forces over a shared love and passion for crafted beer. Born in 2013, Bellport Brewery started by Brian Baker. Brian started as a homebrewer and an active member of Long Island Beer and Malt Enthusiast (or LIBME) , one of the original local home brew clubs. Their Brian learned his craft and work on it consistently. Brian looked into finding a brick and morter building to start the brewery. His original location was 14 Station Road in Bellport. At that time Basils was not quite in their yet. Unfortunately Brian, a homebrewer and little to no financial support was unable to afford his dream home for the brewery. Through the years people came in and out of the brewery to leave their mark to try to help Brian on his way. One significantly member is Rich Flynn of Moriches Field Brewing Company. Rich was an assistant with Brian and helped him move to his first location with distribution throughout Long Island. For the first few years Bellport Brewing was only distributing their product from Montauk to Manhattan. Late in 2015 Bellport Brewing Company accepted an offer from Adirondack Brewing Company at their Barrel Fest annual event. That was the trip that brought Bellport Brewing to upstate New York. Since we have had distribution on our own from Montauk to Cooperstown and Saratoga/Albany. With this acknowledgement of his dedication and skill, Brian finally admitted to himself that he was not cut out for being an employee and allowed his life-long dream of owning a brewery to resurface.
As people have come and go through the brewery the most recent may be here to stay. Brian’s current assistant Travis has been with him for almost 3 years and has helped the brewery from being a distribution only brewery to having a brick and mortar for the first time. We opened Bellport Brewing re-imagined in a strip mall in Bohemia and called it “Sunrise Ales & Lagers”. Sunrise Ales & Lagers was a venture that unfortunately did make it too far due to a landlord that was very unforgiving of a small businesses situation. Enter the Turner family, whose son Travis had been working at the brewery. Georgia and John Turner, were immediate fans of Bellport Brewing and shared the dream of one day owning a brewery. A partnership was formed and the vision of Bellport Brewery came back to a reality. The original location for Bellport Brewing became available as the last tenant had left just 5 months prior. Everything was taking place and the perfect home for Bellport Brewing Company was now theirs. Today, Bellport Brewery is proud to offer a rotating selection of weekly brewed craft beers and to host a selection of local guest beverages, as well.
Family and community is at the heart of everything at Bellport Brewery (we also love animals), so we are delighted to source our ingredients locally and put a fun spin on each brew. We are constantly striving to expand and improve our beers, bringing a whole new meaning to creative juices! We are honored to serve the people and visitors of Bellport and can’t wait to pour you a pint!
